National Gaming Day @ Your Library!

As you probably know, we in the Teen Reading Room are all about gaming. Next week, Saturday November 15, we’d already decided to throw an additional Super Mario Bros BRAWL Tournament, this one for teams– and we’ve filled up the sign up list already again! (Never fear– we still want you for the waiting list). But it turns out that next Saturday isn’t just another Brawl Tourney– it’s OFFICIAL NATIONAL GAMING DAY @ YOUR LIBRARY! Which means we are not the only ones gaming next week– people all over the country are going to THEIR libraries to game, too.

And when I say “game,” yes, I do mean video games, but I mean Board Games too. The library has a wide variety of board and party games for all ages, which will be out all day for you to play. We even have a Brand New Game, Pictureka! which all the libraries will be trying out on Game Day. Can you imagine– being part of a record-breaking nationwide group of people all trying out the same game at the same time? Learn more about Pictureka! here: http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=browse&product_id=20686# Click on Try it! to play a sample game online!

So if you weren’t planning to come next week because you’re already in the December Tournament, or you don’t like video games or Brawl in particular, or you were afraid you’d get on the waiting list and not get picked and be hanging around all day bored, COME ANYWAY! We’ll have all kinds of games for everyone to play!

This Week: In Programming

Hi all,

It’s Saturday, and I’m working at the circ desk so I thought I would let you all know what’s happening in the Teen Room this week.  (That desk gets busy!  Now it’s Sunday and I’m finishing this post!)

Monday, Tune In: Music Sharing, 1pm:  This week’s theme is musicals.  So join us to listen to new showtunes and recommend your favorites!  Bring your CDs, mp3 players or even records!

Monday, Metamorphosis, 3:30pm:  Join me in learning about Post Secret and making postcards, because everyone loves getting real mail, right?  We’ll use scraps from old magazines, duct tape, rubber stamps, glitter, and make stamps using potatoes (potato printing!).  Make as many postcards as you want!

Tuesday, Act One, 2:30pm:  Act up with Beth and a member of the PTHS Theatre Troupe!

Tuesday, Writers Studio, 6pm-?:  Do you need someone to offer feedback on a story you’ve been writing, but you don’t want to give it to your mom or bestfriend to read?  Cme to the Writers Studio.  We’ll meet every other Tuesday for the rest of the summer to workshop your writing.  Who knows, maybe you’ll turn that short story into a novel and end up shopping it around to publishers.

Wednesday, Creatures, 2:30pm:  Read from All Creatures Great and Small with Beth.  Then scavenge the library for more books about animals.

Wednesday, Game On! Tweens 4-6pm & Teens 6:30-8:30pm:  Open gaming with the 360s and the Wii.  Snacks will be provided to fuel your fury!

Thursday, Genres, 2:30-3:30pm:  Do you have an (over-)active imagination?  Genres is the program for you.  Read and write your own adventure story, or work with a partner, during Beth’s one hour program!

Friday, Late Night @ the Library, 6:30-9:30pm:  BIG Bug Movie Night!  Drink Rootbeer or Coke floats, snack on bug gummies, and watch Them and Mysterious Island with me!

Saturday, Project Design, 11-1pm:  Come make unique clothes out of recycled fabrics and any other materials you can think of.  We’d like to have a fashion show of all the creations at our end of summer Summer Reading Wrap Party.

The library isn’t about shushing anymore!  So stop by this week and get creative with us!

(Super Smash Bros Brawl Tournament info will be posted in a few short days–so keep checking back!!)

gaming tonight!

Hey teens and tweens!

I bet you all had a blast gaming with your younger [and older] comrades last week. This is just a reminder that tonight’s gaming goes back to normal with seperate sessions for teens and tweens.

Tweens are from 4 to 6 tonight and Teens are from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight, as usual.

And don’t forget we have new games! So get ready to try some new things or just show off some skills that library kids may not have seen. [I know a bunch of you must be Call of Duty 3 pros and Super Smash Bros. Brawl champions.]

Watch out! Some kids have been coming to the library and practicing a lot during open gaming hours.

All Ages Game Night

Hey guys and gals! Don’t forget All Ages Gaming Night is this Wednesday night (as it is the third Wednesday of the month). Come prepared to get your butt kicked on all the video games by seven year olds that are sooo good! And remember it might be a little busy since so many kids are allowed to come so maybe bring your favorite card game along too.

Remember to always play nice and make new friends!

Wii Sports for Seniors (as in older adults, not high schoolers)!

The library is beginning a Wii Sports program for older adults.  It will begin Monday, June 9 and run from 10:30am to 12pm.  I know, I know, what does this have to do with you…  You probably have grandparents, or older neighbors, who may not get out that much.  Or who may not be able to do the active things, like golf & bowling, that they used to.

Tell them about this program!  If they don’t know what Wii or Wii Sports is, explain it to them.  Let them know that they can bowl again without having to pick up a 10 lb. bowling ball!  Better yet, come to the program with them!  We are going to have teen volunteers on hand to teach the adults how to use the Wii-mote, but it might be more comfortable for them to learn from someone they know!

Let your older adults know that the program will meet Monday, June 9, 16, 23, & 30, from 10:30am to 12pm in the Teen Reading Room.  Also, they should register ahead of time at the Circulation Desk.

Movies for tomorrow

Some people have been asking what we’re watching for Teen Movie Lounge tomorrow. We have two options. Lars and the Real Girl or a movie that’s just a little different – one of the old Indiana Jones movies. I won’t explain Indiana Jones movies because I figure everyone already knows espeically with the newest one just coming out.

lars and the real girl

Lars and the Real Girl stars Ryan Gosling. He decides to buy a doll on the internet and make it his girlfriend.

“The search for true love begins outside the box.”

So we have two different options because we want you guys to tell us which movie you would like to watch! Comment here on this blog post if you’d like but we’ll probably have everyone vote before we turn the movie on.

Don’t forget we’ll have popcorn to go along with the movie tomorrow!

Also, even though you should all be in school right now, don’t forget that we have our game on programs for tweens (6th to 8th grade) from 3:3o to 5:3o after school today and for teens (9th to 12th grade) from 6 to 8:3o tonight. Stop by! [We just picked up awesome snacks for those of you who come tonight.]
