Programs are fun! You should come too!

This morning I used the T-shirt Bag I made at yesterday’s teen room program at the grocery store. We made some pretty cool bags yesterday afternoon, I must say. That’s just one example of the new things you get to do when you come to a library program.

Of course, the big program we’re looking forward to the rest of this week is National Gaming Day @ Your Library! That’s this Saturday! With a Team Brawl tournament on the big screens, and new and classic games of all types in all the rest of the library, you have to come check it out!

Other upcoming events: Late Night @ the Library on November 20 will be a Turkey Tournament– a night of Cosmic Bowling and virtual table tennis, food and surprises.

November 25 is another open Writer’s Studio– come and share your writing!

And December 6 is the Brawl Tournament FINALS– come cheer on the champions (and don’t forget to come play if you qualified!)

National Gaming Day @ Your Library!

As you probably know, we in the Teen Reading Room are all about gaming. Next week, Saturday November 15, we’d already decided to throw an additional Super Mario Bros BRAWL Tournament, this one for teams– and we’ve filled up the sign up list already again! (Never fear– we still want you for the waiting list). But it turns out that next Saturday isn’t just another Brawl Tourney– it’s OFFICIAL NATIONAL GAMING DAY @ YOUR LIBRARY! Which means we are not the only ones gaming next week– people all over the country are going to THEIR libraries to game, too.

And when I say “game,” yes, I do mean video games, but I mean Board Games too. The library has a wide variety of board and party games for all ages, which will be out all day for you to play. We even have a Brand New Game, Pictureka! which all the libraries will be trying out on Game Day. Can you imagine– being part of a record-breaking nationwide group of people all trying out the same game at the same time? Learn more about Pictureka! here: http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=browse&product_id=20686# Click on Try it! to play a sample game online!

So if you weren’t planning to come next week because you’re already in the December Tournament, or you don’t like video games or Brawl in particular, or you were afraid you’d get on the waiting list and not get picked and be hanging around all day bored, COME ANYWAY! We’ll have all kinds of games for everyone to play!

September 6th Brawl Tourney Victors!

Saturday, September 6, was our biggest Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament yet!

  • Competitors started arriving well before the 11am check-in time!
  • Three students from the high school were here early to capture the action and interview the players.
  • We had an 8-person waiting list of teens hoping some of the competitors wouldn’t show–so they could have their spots in the tourney.
  • One of the teens on the waiting list–Kahlil–ended up placing in the top 3!

Below, are September’s victors who are now eligible to compete in the December Grand Championship Tournament for the big prizes (bigger than the Game Stop gift cards they won this month).

1st Place:  Shadow
2nd Place:  GSNUG
3rd Place:  Kahlil

Brooke:  Brawl Knowledge Cube

Some Friendly Reminders

1. The deadline for the short film contest is this coming monday! Those of you working on short films should get that finished up and posted on YouTube. If you haven’t already, make sure you let Kelly know that you’ve made a film for our contest so we make sure to find it on YouTube.

2. Pita plays at the library tomorrow night! Let’s call it a Pita and Pizza party.

3. Birdwatching will happen again next wednesday. We had some success this week! (If there is rain on Birdwatching days the program still takes place we just find ways to participate inside).

4. Shelf construction has now been completed in the teen room. Changes in book locations for the YA department may be taking place over the next few weeks. If you can’t find something come ask at the YA desk!

5. When you come in to play video games, don’t forget to bring your library card and your white gaming card. If you still don’t have your own library card… ASK! If you’re old enough to be in the teen room you’re old enough to have your own library card.

6. There are still five spots available for the Saturday, August 2nd Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament. Come to the teen desk to sign up. The monthly tournament sign-ups will be available only before each individual tournament to make sign ups fair. If you don’t get to sign up during pre-registration in the first 32 slots come to the tournament anyways just in case pre-registrants don’t make it. Open gaming will be available on the X-Boxes during tournaments.

That’s all I can think of right now.
